No Horsing Around for Corby Air Cadets

Over the May bank holiday weekend, 25 cadets from 422 (Corby) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets teamed up with 1101 (Kettering) Squadron to assist at the Rockingham International Horse Trials.

The cadets worked hard as usual over both days, taking on vital roles in the running of the event.  Every cadet who wished to help in the arenas were given a safety briefing by the event staff and had to memorise the course well enough to be safe while rebuilding the jumps that the horses had knocked down.

Other roles included stopping vehicles and pedestrians at crossing points to let horses pass and blowing whistles to alert the other gate operators to close their gates to ensure the safety of the public.

Cadet Natalia Czajka said, “It was really fun at Rockingham.  I’m definitely going next year!”

Those camping over were awarded for their efforts with a large barbeque cooked by Civilian Instructor Wade.

The cadets were heavily praised by the Castle and Event staff and plans are already being made to return next year.  Well done 422!
