Corby Air Cadets pay their respects

On Sunday 9th November 2014, 45 cadets and staff from 422 (Corby) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets attended the local Remembrance parade organised by the Corby branch of the Royal British Legion to honour those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

The parade moved from 422’s Squadron Headquarters at 10:30am, making its way to the cenotaph at St. John the Baptist Church in Corby Old Village.

The Reverend Paul Frost, Corby Squadron’s Chaplain, led the ceremony at the cenotaph, where over 50 wreaths were laid by those who wished to pay their respects.  This year, 422’s wreath was laid by Cadet Flight Sergeant Rebecca Mabbutt.

Following the Church service and a march past back into the centre of the Old Village, the parade was dismissed and all were invited back to the Ex-Serviceman’s Club for a buffet and trophy presentation ceremony.

Cdt Hannah Eden collecting the RBL Trophy

Every year a trophy is awarded to the youth organisation that raises the most money towards the Poppy Appeal.  This year, after raising over £2,000 across three consecutive weekends, 422 (Corby) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets were presented the L/Cpl James Ashworth VC trophy by Cpl Coran Ashworth.  Collecting the trophy on the Squadron’s behalf was Cadet Hannah Eden.
