Corby Cadets Soar to Success

Two Corby Air Cadets are flying high after completing the Advanced Glider Training Course (AGT) at 616 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, RAF Henlow.

Cadet Sergeant Jacob Guthrie and Cadet Flight Sergeant Joshua Loy have successfully completed the requirements to be eligible to wear the Air Cadets (Gold) Wings on their uniforms.

The course requires candidates to attend allocated training weekends until completion of their course which involves revision of the Gliding Scholarship Syllabus, instruction on Advanced Turning and Advanced Landing and completing a minimum of five solo circuits.

Flight Sergeant Loy said of his achievement, “Following the completion of my Gliding Scholarship (Silver Wings), I was asked to return to the Squadron to become a Staff Cadet and further my glider training.  Being a Flight Staff Cadet means that on top of my current ATC duties I also help out at 616 Squadron, assisting with ground operations such as refuelling aircraft or helping cadets strap into the aircraft.  After completing the AGT Syllabus I flew solo once again, this time completing 5 circuits of the airfield. This resulted in me being awarded my gold wings”.

Pilot Officer Kev Ritchie RAFVR(T) said, “A course like this requires great determination and commitment.  The Squadron and I are extremely proud of both cadets and their achievement.  I’m sure they will wear their Gold Wings with pride”.
